Where the gators are
So ive been getting all my supplies ready and just ordered a couple of FX5s that should be here on friday:headbang2. Gonna hook them up to my 60 gal to get them seeded for when the tank is done. The build finally starts tomorrow so ill get some picks up then. But the plan is to coat the inside of the tank with fiberglass resin. And ive been looking at Pond Coat and Zavlar but im hearing that the silicone will not adhere to this. Now is this true or can i just wait 2 weeks for the rubber to cure then apply the silicone for the window?

only 330 gal? why not go bigger, your red tails gunna need it anyway, if your building already might as well go testicles to the wall.

be careful that your fx5 dont make to much current and cause a mess in ur tank

its my first build and he'll be good in it for at least a year. so just gettin some experience in before i go for "testicles to the wall":ROFL:with a 1500 or larger. no need to spend that kinda of money then it failing.

Can't wait. Will follow this thread. :D:D:D

apparently 'adhesive silicone for potable use' will work for adhering your viewing window to zavlar. there's a few threads about this.

doesnt look like much yet but it wont be fully assembled till i get it moved to the house

Silicone that was widely used in builds (GE1 Window and Door) will not stick to Zavlar and Zavlar will not sure when in contact with silicone. When I did my build last year I did several tests using these products and they just dont play well together. However, the workaround to get the viewing window to seal was easy and cost all of $15. You can read about that on my build thread below. I do understand that 3M 5200 silicone does stick to Zavlar. Whatever you decide to use, test it first to be sure that it will work before risking your glass. I broke a $200 piece of glass following bad advice.

Well its been only 2 days and the tank is finally built.:headbang2Im gonna put a the first layer of Fiberglass resin on right now so ill get pics up in a bit.:D
