It appears that my 5 month old 8" RTC has eaten rocks, his belly is full he is having difficulty swimming and yet he continues to eat food. This is my 2nd RTC the last out grew my 125 and I traded it (shame on me), but I have never seen this behavior, does anybody have any experience with this and what was the outcome?????

5 month only 8", thats small.....but any way, your cat will eather throw it up or it will pass. that is why i keep my cats in a bare bottom tank to reduce the risk of them swollowing things.

i agree

I have him a community tank with a Jack and some large tinfoil barbs. I only feed once a day and will skip a day once or twice during the week. Right now I have tuned back to a 75 Gal, and I am trying to control his growth so he doesn't outgrow the tank.

Anyway it is good to hear that I won't be having a funeral anytime soon.

Today is my first day on this sight, it is very cool reading some of the posting about the RTC's is causing me to want to get a larger tank and grow this one larger than the last.

Thanks for the quick response and reassurance.

:welcome: BDavid, what you are doing "Controlling growth" is actually going to stunt your RTC and will cause premature death in the long term.

RTC's are becoming famous for eating rocks and stones from their tanks, and it usually isn't a problem as they will "Eject" them one way or another... should it start to become a problem with the RTC Not eating then you may have to help it along by over feeding which will cause your RTC to throw up.

Good luck with your RTC ;)

ya mine was about the same size when it swolloed a lot of rocks. I put him in the hosbitle tank that is bare bottom, I wouldnt feed him tell he throgh up the rocks

One of my O's accidentally sucked up 2 rocks at once because it is an unfillable void, it swam in circles until it was able to spit them up.

This happens more than you would think. Give it some time. I can almost assure you that they will come back up within the next 2 months. My big guy carried around 2 3" rocks for 3 months and finally coughed them up after a meal of about 1 lbs of night crawlers.
