Quite new here.

Recently got back into the hobby after 10 years out. It actually started by winning some goldfish at a fair with the missus. Went to the lfs the day after for a bowl.

Came out with bowl, a 25g tank and a baby rtc.

Then I frantically searched the net for a larger tank, luck had it I managed to find an old marine tank 8 ft x 38"w x 30"h and in less then 48 hours of owning him. I'm quite fortunate the missus adores him and has let me convert one of the horses stables into a fish room. Maybe some more tanks in the future. He's currently sharing his tank with an 12inch Oscar and a sailfin plec around 15/16inches. He's gone from 3 inches to 7/8 in the matter of 6 weeks. Looks likes he's going to be a big chap. So here's a picture of "tiny" (the girlfriend named him) are pride and joy. (Beats having a kid)

Sweet story. :)

Don't read much into my question but how well do you know what you are committing to?

I used to keep one in a 6ft x 6ft pond many years ago. Power cut in the winter saw her of off at 34inches at 3 years old. Kinder why I gave up all those years ago. Lost a lot of fish. I'm fully clued up on the commitment and the size of these fish.

I've already had the agreement from the missus. If he gets to big for the tank ( which is most likely) We can do a tropical pond again. I've already got the
Pump and filteration system incase we need the pond... Just so I'm prepared

Nice!

I'm glad to see an experienced and weathered keeper overcome the blues and get back in the saddle and also join the forum.

I am surprised the oscar has not made a snack out of the RTC when it was 3" and the oscar was 12".

Thanks, I'll see how I get along. It's good to be back.

The Oscar is a new addition. He was added when the rtc was a little bigger.

Looks great mate
As said, nice to see someone buy a RTC who actually knows what they are getting into and is prepared to upgrade his/her home in the future.
Best of luck with tiny, I wish they stayed a bit smaller, one of my all time fav catfish when they are a little smaller but they lose their appeal for me as they get to 2 foot and over.

Haven't been on here for around 5 months. "Tiny" is now heading towards the 20" mark. I'm currently working away. So once I'm back I can finishoff there tropical pond, base is built, just need to line it and add extra insulation. Rescued two larger fish aswell, removed a few fish aswell. Oscars and plecos, ect. having a large tank built so the pond is a tempory measure. Although we got to re enforces the floors befor the tank can go onto it and have them levelled properly. That will be more summer time though.

I'll try and add a picture of him over the next day or so.
