Hi guys,

My situation here is about feeding

My 6 inch RTG has been taking pellet for 45 days now. Starting by chewing the pellets and spit them out. Few more days later it start chew and swallow but after eating for about half of full stomach then starting to spit it. the more it getting full the more it spit out. So I change how to feed => give about pellet 30% of full eating then giving a market prawn till about 80% full ( it never spit out Market prawn)

My question here is
1. Is this is normal that chewing and spit? (or it just starting to take pellet)
2. Does feeding 20% of pellet each meals make it getting more nutrients?

Another curious thing
Every time I left my house(about 8 hours 12:00-20:00), When I got back I always saw it swim around top slowly but his eye is drop and it's look like it really sleep. not seeing me from far ,eye not rolling. After about few minutes it like waking up starting to swim more faster dive down and up. eye becoming normal(not drop). but his eye sight looking to be not normal for the time it wake up because when I woke it up and feed instantly. It can't bite market prawn good enough (always miss biting) and can't see any food about 15 inch away. but If I wait about 30 minutes after wake up it eyesight become normal.
I just wondering if this is normal?

It normal, it just started to take pellets so it not going to eat 100% full, beside if you give it 100% full on pellet when the pellets expands It might upset it stomach. ONLY FEED WHAT IT CAN TAKE, spitting out pellet mean I'm full and done in the future.

Second if you are gone for 12 hours and when you come home and the tank is dark your fish is in sleep or rest mode, so turning on the lights and letting it adjust it eyes for 30mins is a good idea or he will miss every time it bite at the food,
So that is absolutely normal.

Very thanks to hear from you.

Do share a pic of the eye that you are talking about.

Also try inserting the pellet inside the prawns and feed. Its not straightforward to say an Aro is full or not, you will understand the most suitable quantity in some time. Sometimes even after eating it will spit the food out, that is ok, just clear the left over food from tank asap.
