I bought a pair of Salvinis about 3 weeks ago. I put them in my 75g with 6 Dats, a GT, a Senegal, and 2 Fancy Plecos. I was hoping to clear out my 50g for them, but looks like I was too late. I just found eggs! Out of all the places to lay them though...they laids them close to the filter intake. Well...I figured that the fry will be food for all the other fish or they'll get sucked up into the filter. :irked: I was hoping they would hold off until I had the other tank ready for them. I thought they wouldn't breed with all the other fish around them.

I'm not quite to sure what I should do. What do you guys think?

Can you lift the rock where they laid them? Possibly move that to a hospital tank containing water from the original tank.....?

Well...the problem is, I can't see the back of the rock. I wonder if they laid some on the back side. But I don't have any other tanks to spare. And the rock is pretty heavy. I was thinking of moving the rock to the other side of the tank, but will they follow and take care of the eggs over there?

If the eggs are attached to something you can move, fill your baby tank with water from the main tank and add a sponge filter. If they're just laid at random, you can add a divider or just hope the parents can defend them until they are mobile, then you can suck them out.

Well you beat me to the reply and answered questions before I could comment. :) If you move it and get the parents over with it, they should tend to them.

A divider is probably a better idea than moving the rock. This would probably freak the parents out so that they would no longer care for the eggs. I tried to do that once with a pair of convicts and they ate the eggs. As for the filter, you can attach a pair of panty hose with a rubber band to the intake.

I agree, a divider is the BEST idea, but there are a lot of fish in there. How big are all of the fish in the tank? I just had to divide my 135 for the same reason, and it was a very unhappy tank for those few days due to the amount of fish.

The biggest fish in there is the GT at 5" I just went out and bought an egg crate and some suction cups. I orginally divided the 50g, but then I noticed that the Salvinis can slip through the sides and become monster food, so I divided the 75g
