Milky Way Galaxy,
hi guys, okay for my school science fair am going to do it on shark eggs. am going to get 3 Bamboo Shark eggs each with its own 10 gallon tank already cycled from my 55gallon saltwater tank. each tank will have different salinity changes. Tank 1: with normal salinity. Tank 2: with a little higher salinity than normal. Tank 3: a little lower salinity then normal.(trying to see if this has changes on hatching faster.) I just got some questions -How long does it take the shark egg to hatch? i will be getting them from an online store. -How long can they be kepy in the 10gallon after they hatched? and i am not keeping them in long term there going to my LFS's show tank witch is about 1,000gallons (arclyric). ive seen the tank he has very little live rock (expet in the filteration part). thanks:nilly:

sounds badass, i think they hatch at around 4 inches?

growth rate:
In captivity, some variation in growth rates have been reported. Masuda (1998) reported individuals reaching 30 cm TL after one year, while Miki (1994) reported 42.1 cm TL after five months!

so btwn 1 and 3.2 in per month

how are you going to ensure that you get three eggs all laid at/around the same time?
they hatch at ~6".
well am getting them online all at the same time. I would guess they would only be 1-3 days apart at most... I still need to know an estimate on how long they stay in there egg, so I know when to start.

Hi, as you don't know when each egg was really laid and as 3 measurements are too few, the results will be not really scientific, anyway it will be nice to candiling eggs watching the embryo growing ;-)

Well I plan on calling them, and if there not the teacher won't know (: it would be awesome to get an A for fish keeping/hatching!!!

how much r u getting the eggs for, u makin profit?? :)!!

Oh ya! Getting them for $35 hehe

And when they hatch I read they won't eat for 7 days ? Is that true and also they should be fed market shrimp to be introduced to feeding?

And for filtration I forgot am going to post pictures. And am guessing I should do 2-3gallon water changes a week?

Any mass supplier will just sell you what they have. You'd have to get a group from the same clutch from someone specific who can show you that they are all sibling eggs. You might get one egg that is almost ready to hatch, and two that hardly show the body developed at all.

As for feeding, you do need to wait a period after they hatch. Right before they break free, the pup will absorb the rest of the yolk sac quickly, and then live off that once out in the world. If you feed too soon, they won't use the rest of that stored calorie load. It gets stored as fat in the liver, and can have a negative impact of them as they grow.
