Every year at work we have a silent auction to raise money for the needy during the holidays. To get employee involvement crafts are requested. Last year we had baskets, table runners, handmade blankets, jewlery,......
This year I decided to participant by making something. The Welder at work was talking about how he had to demo the stairs of an apartment building because a car ran into it. He said the timber was big and old which he chopped up and took to the dump. He gave me a chunk of 8x8 about 4 feet long. It weighed about 40 lbs. I've always wanted to but never sculped before. After about a week, working on it after work, I came up with this. The Welder helped me weld the leaf I drew. It's made of scrap titanium. Basically, everything I used is reclaimed material. I left the old paint on the base to show this is reclaimed wood. The worm was hard to find so I painted it orange which everyone didn't like. So my daugther advised me to paint it green with dots. Yes, my modern sculpture has a cartoon worm on it but she likes it.
Hope I get a good bid on it because 100 percent of it goes to a good cause.

ken, what tools did you use?

that sounds like something i may wanna get into.

Bandsaw, Dotco (die grinder) and hand filed most of it. All the welding was done in a chamber to purge all the oxygen.

Nice first sculpture! I need to learn how to weld, now. That's a really nice piece of wood you used.

Without a doubt you could make some good money at that if this is what you came up with for a first off.

That is sharpe so sharp it cuts like a razor man!
