So my baby senegal, about 2-3" had pretty much all of his tail fin bitten off by on of the cichlids that I have in my tank. This was about a week ago and he is still hanging out in the floating plastic plants that I have. He still moves around well enough to go get the food that I put near him. I have heard that bichirs are pretty tough, I was just wondering if his tail will regrow, or will it most likely heal w/o a tail fin and he will just have to learn to live w/o it?

depends on how bad it is i jus had a baby ornate get his tail bit off looked kinda heart shaped it grew back i use stress coat

the tails will grow back, but you need to remove those cichlids, bichirs are better on their own.

ya, I know I should remove the cichlids, but I have him in my 90 gallon tank until I get a larger smaller tank that is in my room with shell dwelling cichlids. I have him in the 90 gallon because he can hide easier for the meantime in the floating fake plants. I'm glad to hear the tail will grow back though

Would a 33 gallon long, or a 40 gallon breeder be okay for him with some shell dwelling brevis cichlids for a while until he can grow big enough to not look like a meal to the american cichlids in my large tank.
