this is the first time i have bought a pair of shovel nosed catfish and they are nearly 5-6 inches.they are housed in a 30g tank with a 6-7 inch jardini.
my shovel nosed catfishes always are in hiding.

though i have left feeder fish i see only the jardini eating i have never seen the shovel nosed catfish eat.

is there any problem with my fishes or do i have give them something else to eat like night crawlers or blood worms.

there tigers right we'll they do like to hide its just most peoples tiger shovel nose cats are to big to make hideing places for give them a little time and they'll move around more not the most active cat but they will do some swiming

Theres a good chance they've learned to stay out of sight because the Jardini is terrorizing them. Other than that...as previously stated most big cats are pretty sedentary so...don't be surprised. :)

And I try not to be the "overstocked police" but holy crap a six inch jar in a 30 gal with two TSN? I certainly hope a much much much much much bigger tank is in your immediate future. Your Jar WILL jump out of that tiny tank very soon!

we'll i assume its a TSn he didn't say most limas don't hide nearly as much as tigers but the jardini could very we'll have something to do with it most don't get nasty till there a good amount bigger but they can be little punks for birth

It won't be long before you see your cats all the time as i'm sure the cats will out grow thier hiding spot followed shortly by the tank

i bought them a month ago and yes they are tiger shovel nosed catfish(still six inches but waiting for them to grow).

but i am worried as they might not be eating well.

i have put feeder fish in the tank but i have never seen them even go at the feeder fish.

my jardini is still the docile guy.

do you think i should try to feed sumthing else to them.

@ cenecker
i already have started work on a 6'x2'x2' tank, should be done in another two to three days
but still have no idea about the tank mates to be added.
how about an aba aba or a an RTC

man I have the same problem with my Juruense catfish.
Its been in my tank for about 2 maybe even 3 months... in the beginning he very slowly made a small group of goldfish disapear. but other than that i havent seen him eat. In fact i never saw him eat the goldfish either... i just assumed it was him cuz hes the only one with a big enough mouth for them (they were quite large). hes like 13 inches... and i dont think hes eaten in 2 or 3 weeks now...
im worried as hell

Where to begin?

As small a tank as you have them in I am sure the filtration is not up to par with 3 very large growing monsters. If you feed feeders you compound the problem. These add extra ammonia to the water and tax the filtration system that much harder. Best bet for tsn that size would be frozen or freeze dried krill(take out uneaten portions). Make sure that you feed them after lights out. Wait about 30 mins after lights out and when your eyes have adjusted throw a couple pieces of finely chopped shrimp into the tank or krill and watch them hunt for it.

Ok too much is a bad thing in some cases, such as this one. A 6'x2'x2' tank is way too small for the fish you are suggesting. They might be comfortable in there for year or two make, and that would be with at least a 60-100 gal wet/dry sump type filter crammed with pot scrubbies. I have 3 tsn and two broke the 1' mark in less than 4 months, and one is currently at 18" (should be 20", but he's deformed), and a year old. The other large one is 16" and only had him 5 1/2 months. They can and will grow to more than 3', and it takes as little as 3 years for them to hit that mark. I won't pretend to know much about Jardinis, cept they get rather large also. 3 big fish and still wanting to add more= big NO, NO. If you are making the tank yourself I say set it up cycle it for your fish, and start work on a 10'x4'x3'. That tank will do your three fish for life probably, but you'd still need massive filtration. Add a RTC and aba aba? Not trying to flame, but please don't add any more fish till you can deal with what you have now. RTC can get over 40" in captivity, and not sure how big aba aba get, but I know I've seen them for sale around 3' I think. You'd have fish crammed in there without room within a year, and after 2 years you might have more fish than water. That spells disaster. Again not flamming just trying to put it into perspective for you.

Feeders? What size tank is he in? My catfish will ocassionally fast, but only the big ones. Small ones never seem to fast unless they are sick or have poor water quality. Have you tested your params lately?
