i have a 2 year old map turtle that recently stopped eating, his eyes puffed up, and didnt move. we took him to the vet and got baytril for him, and vitiman A and D. the vet said he might not make it!!! but on the second day of treatment, his eyes were clearing up and he started to eat!:D i was really happy! noe its been a couple weeks and he is still sick, except very much improved. he is eating is active and his eyes are clear, but he still has small red dots (like a rash) on his plastron. these dots a signs of sickness.

no i just noticed he has a cut on his arm and it is puffy and white/purple.:( i dont know if it is infected, but i is pretty bad. i really hope he make it through this.....

If I were you I would raise the water temp to between 80-85 F. and keep it very clean. You can clean the wound once a day with diluted Betadine. Just remove the turtle from the water, apply it to the cut and let the turtle dry out of water for an hour. Keep repeating this until your turtle's cut has healed.

thanks! can you tell me more about this stuff, where i can get it, and if theres anything else i can do or use to help it heal? i really appreciate your comments. ill raise the make sure to raise the temp and keep an eye on him!

You can find Betadine in most pharmacy's.

Also, make sure your turtle is on a healthy diet so this won't happen again.

sorry to here about that he will make it you just have to keep him and the habitat he is in clean. hope he gets better.

i had a similar issue with a eastern box turtle before, we took him to the vet, and they said it was caused by lack of vitamins and natural sun lght. now he is fine and that was about 2 yrs ago. we ifxed the problem by nbuilding an out door pin and putting him out there everydy.

the puffy eyes are usually caused by a lack of UV or an improper diet. make sure you have the correct bulbs and also try adding a little bit of salt to the water he is in, this helps to prevent infection.
