after some help with my silver arowana, its about 2 foot long and hasnt eaten for nearly 2 months now, not moved from the bottom of the tank at the back either, in the last 24 hours its started opening its mouth really wide and looks like its trying to cough something up.

this has all started since i had a pair of parachromis loisellei breed in the tank as they bullied everything else into staying down one side of my tank.

i removed the pair from the tank a couple of days back and since then the arowana has started swimming about again still wont eat and has started the twitching with its mouth like its choking like i previously said.....

any help on what is going on with it?

Not sure. Maybe something stuck in its gills rakers.

If it has not eaten in 2 months, but is still ok. I would be pulling it from the tank, wrapping it in a towel and looking in its mouth to see what the problem is. Like kno4te said something in its gills, or swallowed it's own tongue or something?

i think the not eating has been the stress of the breeding pair on the tank being massive bullies towards everything else, since i took them out yesterday morning everybody has been back to normal just my arowana acting strange

getting it out the tank seems abit extreme but if i have to i will

Sometimes u have to get extreme, or lose a fish bro. 2 months is a long time to not eat. I have had to pull an arapaima, and a red tail cat to dislodge things from their mouths. It's no fun for sure. But worth it to save the fish.
