Its been running for a few weeks, just fine. Now, I look under at my sump and see the cup is overflowing with watery bubbles.
-I have checked the air tube to the pump.
-I have removed it all together, nothing.
-I held it higher in the sump, about 4", and it seemed to stop.
-My tank is still cycling. I dont know how or what would of caused the change.
Any suggestions?????
I did add some SPECIAL BLEND bio enhancer because I am still cycling.
I heard the change in nutrients will cause that. When will it stop? Do I just let it keep overflowin in to the sump?

What kind of skimmer are you using?

Some stuff, like chemi-clean, reef epoxy, etc will cause your skimmer to go wild.

Some of the dechlorinaters with slime coat additives and stuff like prime will also send it into overdrive. Mine is designed so that if the cup fills up it overflows into the skimmer, not outside the cup.

Its a Reef Octopus NWB 100. I did use some epoxy the night before. But, it's been 2 days. when does the skimmer chill out? Is it cool to let it overflow into the sump? the only adjustment is a gate valve in the return from the skimmer.

Definitely whatever additives you added are causing this. Depending on how much stuff in there the skimmer needs to take out it could stop or take a while. Generally additives like that say on the package to turn off the skimmer. I would turn off the skimmer at least for a day to let the cycling stuff work instead of just skimming it out.

Cool, I;ll turn it off now, let it sit for a day or so. I am going through the diatom stage. So, I could care less to look at it right now. Its like I am fighting with my chick!

I used some chemi clean once and it took a week and a 15% water change to get it to where I could turn my octo back on.

When I started cycling my tank I left the skimmer off for 3 weeks for maximum decomp to get thru the ammonia stage. Fired it up and had to empty the cup 3 x that day, then daily for a few daze later, now in week 5 and cycled, it's like empty.

At least you know it works

Reef octo makes a decent skimmer. I give them a slight edge over ASM.

I agree with the above that this is probably being caused by your bio-additive, that has skimmer juice written all over it!
