what shud do? its been a week and its getting worse slowly moving up his tail

wow never heard of a snapper getting an infection from a tail bit ive caught these guys missing a leg and they were healed fine.

Get some of the zoomed turtle sulfa dip. That should help.

Agreed. Also keep the water pristine with frequent water changes. Limit feeding to reduce amount of waste in the water. If you have carbon in your filter take it out, as it could remove the sulfa.

Put the turtle in a dry bucket or something for several hours a day until the wound seals up. Just like us, wounds heal better when they are allowed to dry and no snapper is going to suffer any ill effects from being dry for a few hours a day.

+1

Just dip his hail in the sulfa and keep im dry. He can stay in the bucket all day and night dry and that would help alot.

What about salt? As in like a salty bath? I'm just wondering. I have now idea. But if I ever do own a turtle I will now know how to take care of this issue.

Drying out will work better than salt and even after the tail is healed it is a good idea for snappers to dry out every week or so to help reduce the chances of skin and shell fungus.

The usual remedy for cuts is sulfa dip and dry docking. Dry dock for a few hours then let it swim for a bit and then dry dock again. Repeat process until fully healed.

I had the same issue with a Common Snapper I had. Dry docking and sulfa dip seemed to help. What really worked for me was Neosporin and gauze then I covered the tail with a latex glove finger and secured it with waterproof tape. I removed the covering daily and allowed the area to breath. It worked out very well. Good luck and I hope he gets better.
