Ive just been given a 10g tank free i need suggestion on what he should start with its is going to be a tropical setup his dream fish are ally gars paroon sharks arrows rtc tsn lol i said not just yet to the but tiddlers first we need to work mumy over yet anyways suggestion would be great thanks

how old is your son? have you thought about Shell dweller cichlids?

he is 7 cichlids sounds good should it be planted or not ?

Plants can be a bit tricky, but Java Fern should be fine..

Let the tank be something he can have fun and learn from, show him how to use the water test kit and set a schedule where he is asking if he can do it along with feeding and water changes. 1 pair of dwarf cichlids may be choice. if you are looking to put more fish in the tank choose some with less body mass the 1" of fish per gallon does not apply to all fish, there is a lot of difference between 10 1" neons and 1 10" gar.

scrap that its now two 10g tanks i will be connecting with acrylic tube so about 21g with the tube
