So we are just finishing a remodel and as part of it we put in a new shower enclosure (for a silly massive shower, it's over 4x6 feet).

The enclosure is 3 sheets of glass (the swinging door is about 2x7, the sheet next to the door is about 4x7, and the side piece is about 4x3 since half of it is a wall). It is made from 1/2" tempered glass, and if it comes in 4x8 sheets we'd use 1 full sheet and 2 half sheets = two sheets of 4x8.

I asked about a low iron upgrade and it was only $300, which seemed really low so I jumped on it of course.

When I look at the website for "custom aquariums" and their price list for upgrades, finding a 1/2" tempered glass and upgrading it to low iron is $736 for a single 4x8 panel.

So comparing the shower place to the aquarium place the upgrade to low iron is about 1/5 the price....why???

Many different reasons.Thickness of glass, distributor, etc. Plus specialized products like aquariums always cost more.

Quick tip: before you start using your shower (like don't turn the water on) wash both sides of the glass with rain-x to prevent the spots. If you don't, you wasted your money on the clearer glass lol.
