Believe it or not i have an old hunchbacked african cichlid living with my 16 inch devil.. this african cichlid use to live with 2 giant pacus..they thought he was their baby.. both of them protected him, then one horrible night the tank exploded from a short in the wire under the tank..i lost the both pacu and almost new 260 gal tank but managed to find the little african among the glass and smoke.somewhat bent but otherwise alive... But after recovery from his injuries it was time to try other homes for him.... i ended up trying eveywhere that seemed suitable for a 7 inch bent african cichlid...but no matter where i put him he would fight with others.. he was tough..... and had been through hell and back.... finally i decided to try adding him to the red devil tank who had lived alone for about 5 years...there were no other options left, and if this did not work i was all set to give him his own little tank...where i knew he would be lonely but safe,... so i was amazed to see that the red devil and african became friends almost right away... now it has been a few years and he is very old... but still going strong... so i thought he was worth a little story about.. there will never be another like him.,....
if you have a special fish with a special history... please tell us about it... with a picture... they just don't come along every day...:grinno: i have had and still have alot of fish i consider monsters

....but this is my toughest fish by far..........these pics with the pacu were taken about 4 years ago... he was about 8 years old here...

new pics of him today.... so he must be about 12 years old now... as you can see his body is bent... and showing signs of age..yet he still eats good...but time is not on his side and it will be a sad day when he goes... monsters are not always a pretty fish.... and he sure isn't pretty... but like i mentioned before... one tough fish..:D with a whole lot of personalityView attachment 479970

thanks ..i always thought him to be a Labeotropheus fuelleborni...but when i posted him up when he was younger many thought he was a hybrid of that species... so i went with that and never bred with him..... he has some strong genes though...:D

Very cool. I just picked up a couple Labeo trewavasae groups this weekend. I like them already. Very active and somewhat aggressive, so I can see where he gets it.

These two guys have been inseparable since I added the gobby a few months ago. I was a little worried at first because the gulper can be aggresive when it comes to his hidding spot. When the gulper leaves the pvc the gobby is soon to follow. They swim together and eat together its pretty wierd how they have chose to team up. There is two pvc pipes in the tank so everyone has a place but they always hide out in the same one. Never nip at each other or try to push the other out.
