I'm Where I'm At
so in November, I received a notice from sallie mae (who took over my loans from another place, I owe roughly $5k) telling me congratulations on paying off your loan, blah blah blah

I figure, ok, they sold my loans to someone else and i'll start paying to them. here it is, December and I haven't been notified by anyone about a payment plan or anything.

I call sallie mae to see who bought my loans. they tell me it states that a borrower paid it off. meaning it may have been a friend or family or something. I told her "no" I don't know anything about it. she looks deeper and says this company bought my loan. gives me the number,.......... I call them, they say i'm not in their system, as far as they're concerned, they didn't buy my loan and I don't own them anything.

they then give me this other number to where they will have my record using my ssn and tell me exactly how much I owe and who I owe. they take my info, they see that the loan is paid in full and I have no more loans. I asked her so you're telling me as of now, I have no student loans. she says yup.

she tells me maybe I accidentally used a private bank or something to pay off my loan. basically just taking out a loan from a bank and now I owe the bank. I was like, yea, like I "accidentally" did that? um, no

wth happened? Im afraid this will haunt me in the future. only thing I can think of is to run my credit to see if I have a loan under a private lender or party

As long as you have a paper stating paid in full you are golden.

I have an email from sallie mae congratulating me on paying off my loan

man I don't have any family or friends that would pay off my loan without telling me

did I really luck out? I mean, 5k is a nice chunk of change to not have to worry about. it's a pretty big load off my back actually. i'm just worried this will come back and bite me.

when I spoke with the lady at the place that can look up anyone's loan records I made sure she made me understand I don't owe anything anymore. she answered me 3 times, "yes" lol
