My sump lives!!!! Just finished the plumbing, plugged it on, and watched as my dead 210 gallon suddenly came to life!

I am using a 55 gallon tank as a sump, and a mag drive pump. Also using matrix for my bio material.

I also unplugged the pump after it was running, just to see what would happen. My sump went from 1/2 full to about 4/5 full. I marked on the sump the water level of both running and non running. My overflow box held the siphon, so should I ever lose power, I won't end up with a flooded house.

Couple question though... Do I need hose clamps to hold the nylon hose onto the barbs? Also, should i top off the water in the overflow box? Is there any way to make it quieter?

Very exciting stuff! Time to post in the "show off you sump" area

The hose should have clamps if you want to be especailly on the pressure side!

As for the over flow box, you can't top it off can you? it will just spill over. Depending your set up (pictures would help) you might be able to raise the last overflow spot so the over flow box is more full and has less noise.

so i'd assume just changing that PVC in the box to a taller PVC would do it then? I'll take pictures later.

I'll be gone for a day. will kt be safe to keep it running without the hose clamps? are metal hose clamps safe to use on the parts out of water?

If i am thinking of you over flow box right, yes raising the pvc tube on the back side will raise the water level in the whole box.

As far as being safe, hard to say, if nothing is the tank i would probably shut it down. That vinal hose forms to it's enviroment and can kinda lossen. The metal clamps are ok out of water but it is a moist enviroment, so the plasic ones are better.

I use metal clamps on mine, as long as they are out of the water they will be fine. Put some pics up so we can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
