Hello,
I wanted to showcase my 75 gallon sump setup.
Pic # 1 is of the entire setup. Overflow, sump, and return. I'm using two 23 gallon rubbermaid totes nested together to prevent bowing. This setup is doing roughly 375 gallons per hour and I'm not using any baffles.
Pic # 2 is of the overflow. The overflow itself is made of 1" PVC and i used about 8 feet of pipe for the overflow. then i used the rest of the 10 foot piece i bought to actually Get water into the sump. I used uarujoeys design.
Pic # 3 is of the mechanical filtration. I'm using filter socks mounted in an acrylic stand I made myself.
Pic # 4 is of some pothos that I have in the sump to help with nitrates.
Pic # 5 is of the biological filtration. I'm using 4 liters of Seachem Pond Matrix contained in an egg crate box tied together with fishing line. The pothos roots hang in the holes on top of the box and the egg crate keeps the leaves out of the water.
Pic # 6 is of the return pump. I'm running a Danner Mag drive model 7.
Pic # 7 is of the return pipe into the tank. The majority of the return pipe I some 3/4" semi flexible tubing.. I just glued some PVC into a sort of hook on the end to hold it in the tank. I raised it up a little with a sponge so in the even of a power outage there's enough room in the sump to accommodate the backflow when the pump shuts off.
This is my first time attempting a sump and so far it's going well but suggestions are welcome and appreciated! Please tell me what you think of the setup.
