My female sveni needs a mate, I think. She is gravid at the moment and cranky. The guy who owns my LFS of choice had a succesful breeding pair till the male got sick of the female and killed her. He said that he will sell him to me to try to pair him up with my little lady. He is near 10'' and she is 8.5''. The only problem is that she has never been around other pikes, except when I added a smaller Bcrawler and she had it pinned under a piece of wood for 4 days till I rescued it.
My question is , can I get a pair out of this, a murderous male and a crabby female? Or should I just hold off till my juvis are mature and paired off? Oh yeah, the male and his former mate were in a partitioned tank with maybe 20g of space to share. I would pair them in at least a 60g.
Thanks for any help. This my female.

Go for it....they will lip lock and beat the mess out of each other at first, but hopefully they will calm down and be receptive to each other. If they are still beating the mess out of each other after two hours, seperate them. Make a divider of some sort, allow them to see each other and interact for a while. Then remove it and try again. Never pass up an opportunity to get another pike...haha. Actually, its better to use good judgement...;)

Ha ha ha, a little dig at my impulse buy phase. Just to let you know, I have plenty of empty tanks and Ive been giving them away (the pikes that is) to my Socal boys in order to convert them to the joys of crenicichla. And guess what, its working! I make good $ and dont mind sharing my fish. I always end up giving them away no matter what I paid for them. This sveni is my first pike and I really want to see her be a mother. The rest I have are lugubris and I really dont see any of them breeding any time soon. Besides I already have a BUYER for any fry I can get to marketable size.
