I recently purchased some Fluorite black substrate for my 55 gallon planted tank. My previous substrate had aragonite mixed in, which buffered my pH and limited my planting options. I hope to get a more difficult collection eventually.

I have worked with the aquascaping since the shooting of these videos, so parts are a little different. I welcome any constructive criticism. Do you think it can be "Monster Planter" worthy with a little more work? I just started adding acid. The pH was 8.00 but it's dropping now.

Sorry for the crappy camera.

I had to upload the second video twice because the last 3 letters of the first URL were censored by the forum...lol.

It's a 55 gallon. All I do other than routine cleaning is add a liquid supplement like Kent Pro-Plant or SeaChem Fluorish. I have recently been using API liquid CO2 also, but I haven't determined if it works well yet!

Since the tap water is ph of about 8+ here, now I am also titrating with phosphoric acid

You'd get much better results all around if you added CO2.
All the carbon your plants need, plus lower pH from the carbonic acid it produces.

Yeah I have considered it. I saw the liquid stuff at a pet expo recently and wanted to try it. It does make a noticeable difference, but not nearly as much as CO2 gas. It just seems too expensive at this point.

How much does a decent system cost? I think the tank of CO2 is like $20, but isn't the rest of the system more expensive? Plus a regulator is like $100.

I might just go with yeast + sugar

Maybe its just me but man did that make an improvement!!
