Hello,
i was at the lfs awhile back bought what i thought were 3 jd's one didnt make it now a few months later one of them shot up in size pushing about 6in or so starting to see the pattern looking more like a texas. anyway lately he has been out of control i keep some danios in the tank so they have something to chase around theyve been in the tank since i set it up all of a sudden he cought all 3 :screwy: i come home from work today and i hes got my 7-8 needle fish swallowed i have a vid and some pictures once i get them off my phone ill post looks funny

my problem is hes been smashing him self into the lid of the tank and the heater lowered the water level turned the heat down a bit did a water change and have stacks of cds holding the lid
anyone ever hear of what i can guess a fish mental break down  or any other advise to help calm him he hasnt turned on any other the other chiclids in there yet....

Some Texas cichlids are just destructive :)

he is in a 55g with plenty of space lots of built up slate and hiding spots altho he dosnt seem to care for hiding and is clearly top dog in the tank and just me and my female live here relativly quiet.

you didn't say how big he was but a 55 is a little small if you've got him with tankmates. I'm not one to talk though, I've got a 3" carpinte in with a couple of pleco's, 4" male convict, and a raphael cat in a 30gallon. My other 3" carpinte is in with a 4' severum, 4" HRP, and a 3" HRP in another 30gallon.

looking at him right now i would say 5 maybe 6ish on the high everything else hes with aside from the midus witch is equal size is considerable smaller

You're going to have to let us know your stocklist, their current sizes and what you plan on doing with them all. A 55gallon will not be big enough for a full grown midas, or a full grown texas, let alone the two. 5-6" is about the time your two fish should start killing one another in a tank that size, even with a lot of places to hide you might want to think about getting rid of one of them or moving it for now. It won't be long before you come home to a dead fish and a beat up fish.

currently im looking to a ither another 55g or upgrading to 75-90g stock list
1 texas 1 red devil 1 tg 1 dovii 2 kenyi 2 acai 2 ice zerba 1 jewel 3 green severums 1 jack denpsey 3x spotted raphael catfish stripped raphael catfish dinosaur birchir

the dovii is still very small but im planning a tank for him and im trying to sell off the africans i have and go to all sa im still new to the hobby and admit i rushed into it alittle fast with my fish selection by summers end im looking to have upgraded 2 of my 3 55g to 75g so more room for the cichlids and the other tank has 3 small oscars and useing one 55 for the dovii till hes ready for a bigger one.

You will need at least 180 for the dovii & texas is craxy because not enough territory.Need bigger tanks:)
