HONORURU, HAWAII!
Aloha monsterflowerhornkeepers!

well i've had my little guy since july 5, 2010...Just wanted to share him with you and get some opinions...

I bought him as a Blue Diamond and learned of the Thai Silk name..is there any difference between the two?

After doing some research i've noticed that some have the marbly-looking pearl markings, along with a RED tinge on fins/forehead area...also see remnants of the flowerline.

i guess what im wondering is the following
-is my fish of a lesser breeding quality than the other thai silk/blue diamonds i have seen?
-again what's the difference (if any) between BD and TS...

Thanks in advance! here are some flicks.

bought him just about at 3 or so inches. He is now nearing 6.5-7inches.
I think his figure is pretty good (maybe kok is a little on the smaller side?) He's gotten more aggressive since having a 30g with guppies/a fat comet next to his 50..always ramming the glass and trying to get at them. To my understanding this is promotional for kok growth, yes?

Thanks for reading! i look forward to all your help/info.:)

add:

his dorsal fin also went form being long and stringy (first pic) to stubby almost (second pic) and ive been feeding it more and more (introduced frozen bloodworms into his diet) and then noticed that his dorsal fine got longer again...is thie from nutrition or something that would have happened anyway?

his bottom fin did not become shorter. idk if it was an accident with his AC70 intake or what. just curious....learning the art of FH slowly. :D

Beautiful FH I must say! I myself have been captivated by the Thai Silkstrain.
To my understanding blue diamond and thai silk are the same. Fish vender's come up with all kinds of creative names to enhance sales!

As for the "red tinge" you speak of, keep in mind that flowerhorns are bread with so much variety that pretty much no 2 look the same. So i don't believe yours is of any less value then others. what would distinguish value is Kok size, intensity of the blue hue, overall shape and size, and other factors around those lines.

Hope this helps,

Thai Silks originally came from only 1 breeder, but they are the same fish just a different names. The red tinge is natural, Definatly a plus. Hes very stocky and has good body shape. Definatly going to be a stunner when he grows up. He still has alot of growing to do.

wheeee!! Thanks a lot, everyone!

This guy's really special to me because when i got him, he originally got SUCKED UP THE TUBE from his emperor 350...and being the way i am, i broke down and basically left it outside to be taken care of after work (this is at 530am and im supposed to leave for work.) after grieving for 5 minutes or so i decided that it was only proper to give it a proper burial. so i shook it out of the inlet pip and when it landed on the ground, it TWITCHED!!!:nilly:so i threw him in a cup of water, saw that he was actually quite fine. maybe a little beat up from his bad trip. i have NO idea how long he was in there (could have been from as far as 11pm the night before. :( however, i dont know if he would have lasted for that long with water rushing backwards over his gills...Anyway, that's why this fish is so special to me, its a MFK'in survivor yo! :headbang2

it never would have occured to me that it would have happened, as he was in a 90 g (yeah...that little fish in the first picture) lol...it was taken not long after his move from the 90 to 50.

Can't wait till he gets bigger!
Mahalo again.

i just picked up a TS today. 4 inches for 40 bucks. not too bad and hes imaculate!
i also had a jack dempsey sucked up an intake tube and was living inside one of my canister filters. found him when cleaning it out. 2 years now still alive with perm fin damage but i had to keep him.
Nice srt 4 in your avatar. look exactly like mine but without eyelids =)

its looking real good

Wow, he's stunning. I really like him a lot.
