my thickskin is finally holding!!

Finally after months of courting and trying so hard to attract her, he finally got her knocked up, I'm so proud of him! And, we were jsut about to give up and seperate them bc we felt bad for the female getting chased so much (haven't had any luck finding more females). He was trying for 6 months,Her vent had been out for at least 2 months but she just wasn't interested in spawing but finally nature took it's course lol.

my question is how long before I should strip the fry??

Yeah I'm definitely gonna leave her in the main tank at least for a week because i've found if I move them earlier the female usually eats them... Hopefully she will carry them through to at least 15-18 days and then we will most likely strip the fry then or move her in a week or so to a tank by herself... I don't know which is best for her...?

In my fish, I always leave the mom until the fry start eating her fins, at that point I pull her, unless she is a know fry eater. Alot of fish support thier fry with some form of contact feeding on the parents. If she is a fry eater you wont know yet, but their is only 1 way to find out.

Bump for someone who knows when I should strip the female Hap sp. 44 Thickskin female... How many days? the water is at 78 f. she has been holding for 5 days...

Thanks! I don't think she has too many left... she started out with a mouthfull!! but she is still holding so fingers crossed... once I get a good sized colony going feel free to drive up to NH lol or I can just ship you some!

i cannot wait to see them... little batch the first time is okay... theres always more in the near future...and they have more and more with each batch...congrads again...

by the way what do you do with your females? let them release on their own in a seperate tank? I've tried that and haven't had as good of a turnout... I am considering putting the thickskin in a tank all by herself and let her release I even was thinking about letting her stay in there with them until they all grow so that she's not the only female in w the male... Do you think she would eat the fry if I did that?
