My Thorichthys Aureus tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you ever see them sold as “reds”, they are most likely maculipinnis. Blue and gold are the two main morphs.
I am glad you are keeping this updated w/ photos. They are an amazing species that doesn’t get much attention.[/QUOTES

I DID see them for sale as Aureus Red, and I almost bought them. However abit of searching on this site and the help of @Stanzzzz7 led me away from them luckily. I’m glad you confirmed my suspicions about them. Thank you.

I bought this as aureus red, but I knew it wasn’t. Definitely not aureus, definitely looks more maculipinnis.

It’s not to put down Maclipinnis, but I definitely wanted Aureus or heckelli. Did you get him from the petplace?

True maculipinnis is a nice fish too. I definitely want aureus one day. Now have meeki, pasionis and Mixteco blue.
Yes, that one was from that pet place. Hard a hard time keeping these guys alive because they all had white stringy poo when I brought them home. Gave up after buying 4.
Where did you get your aureus? The Wet Spot?

Yes, I found Aureus for sale at the pet place and aqua bid but both sites made me nervous, pet place for the things I read. And aquabid because the pictures just didn’t seem right. Then again it was tough because there was no pictures of juvenile Aureus that I could find to confirm. Lol

But I waited and eventually wet spot had them in stock, tank raised. So I’m assuming they know a breeder locally because if it was in a farm more then just them would have gotten them. They actually have them up again. I wish I could have gotten a few from a couple different sources that way they all weren’t from the same batch. But I suppose as I’m not really planning on selling any out it doesn’t matter. But still

I thought so, because I thought about getting them, but decided on buying pasionis instead. The Wet Spot is one of my favorite places to buy fish these days. I bought 6 pasionis and 2 robertsoni from them. All fish came in very healthy, healthier then anywhere else. Only lost 1 pasionis after having them in 2 years.
