Hahaha! I couldn't resist posting these, sooo proud of it. I LOVE Avacados!! MMM MMM GOOD! So I tried planting one in the pot with my cactus, and ITS GROWING!! :D Not sure what to do with it though. Its gonna get hella big, and i think it'll be too cold durin the winters here. Bugga. I really wanted some!! :D Bonsai maybe? Anyone know how to do that? Shortest avacado tree in the makin!

LOL. I'm not sure about the bonsai idea. You could wrap them in straw/hay blankets, that's what we do in our winters for exotic species...

Nice work there.
People do grow them indoors all the time. You can either put it in a large pot by itself and just sit back and enjoy, or try a Bonsai. They do *NOT* have a tendency to branch at any young ages, which is unfortunate, which means it's not really suitable for Bonsai. If you cut the top off, it will send up ONE new shoot, rarely two, and these new shoots grow upwards, not sideways, so a Bonsai would not be sightly.
I would plant it, and let it grow up on its own. Most people lose them to overwatering than anything else.
Enjoy!

How many people grow them? These guys get HUGE! How the heck am i supposed to grow that indoors? They are 20' plus trees man!! My parents used to pick them all the time when they were in Africa...haha...not a little tree.

About the overwatering, not to worried about that. Got it in with a cactus, which I only water every other week, and when i do its twice during that week. So its not gettin TOO much water. Probably not gettin enough water.

Don't really want it to be 'bonsai'...i was just meanin finding a way to keep it shorter! ;)

You planted a guacamole tree in your cactus?

They won't get "huge" in a pot - the roots themselves will limit the growth, then they run out of room to grow :) There's always the good old fashioned "cut off the top" - It looks good, just leave it as is if you want to, or in a pot.

when i had a bonsai i just trimmed the roots back and the trees stay small

Should put the avocado in the largest container that will suit you by itself.
There are other ways for bonsai other than what you see with the pines and spruces. Limiting the growth of trees that normally grow big is also a form of bonsai, and other members already showed some ways of doing that. Trimming back roots and cutting off tops will limit growth of the tree.

yeah, well i like tequila...so i planted one! actually 3 agava plants. its what tequila is made from
