Hey all, I'm sharing some info on my tigrinus catfish. I hope you enjoy the info and videos
WHen I first started researching for a tig, there was a lot scaring me on the young tigs about how sensitive they are and the high mortality rate at a young age. My tig was bought March 27 at about 3-3.5" from another member and friend on MFK. I already peace of mind that it was in good hands, but was still a little nervous.
His first home was a 20L with an emporer 400 biowheel filter. This cats like flow, so this seemed like a good and cheap filter for the 20L that I had acquired from a friend. On arrival, I had acclimated the tig for about 30 min before putting him in my tank. At first, he was very active, swimming up and down the tank sides. I later found that this was a sign of stress, but he quickly acclimated to his surroundings and settled down. IN the 20, he was kept by himself with only a rock structure for hiding. His diet consisted of blackworms at first, and at 3.5", I had quickly got him onto pellets. I didn't feed heavy at all; about once a day, 3 days on 1 off, and never enough to make him look extremely bloated, just full. When he was small, this consisted of sometimes only one hikari carnivore pellet and a couple worms. Soon, I had him eating all pellets!
After about a month, when I noticed he was eating good and was nice and healthy, I set up a 75g for him. This tank is filtered by a rio 14hf and w/d with 10g sump. On both tanks, the light is/was very rarely on and both tanks were/are in my bedroom w low traffic. At this point, he's eating all pellets. I feed him everyday now, sometimes twice a day, w the occasional day off here and there. I've found consistancy is important with these guys. I always do the same amount of w/c (roughly 50%) once a week on Sundays. He's a typical catifish and hides all day unless I disturb him and is very active at night.
As of today, he's roughly 6". Thats 3" in a few days shy of 2 months. It has been fun raising him and watching him grow. The pattern is looking better everyday now and I'm looking forward to many more years with my little guy.
He'll be moved out of the 75 when hes approx 10" or so into my 300g (6x3 footprint) with my rays.
Now, I will try to attempt attaching some videos!
