My tool for sand

Personally been using a hanger for atleast once a month to keep sand from becoming a hazard for dangerous gases and bacteria. I do use a gravel vac as well. The hanger works extremely well. I thought about members having issues and didn't won't to use borrowing snails.

Just bend the end of the hanger like in the pic.

Nice! I’ll have to do that with mine. With my heavy canopy on the tank I can’t take it off and even with my step ladder I can’t reach the bottom:/ And my syphon can’t reach the whole tank..... yada, yada.

Ahhh..... Yes, works a lot better than fingers once you get into the deeper tanks and wider. I like.

About gases... what are you scared of? I think it's more a myth, than a reality that gases in sand/substrate will burst and kill fish - at least i can't find any scientific proof of that being the case. H2S? It'll combine with oxigen in water and the output is SO2 + H2O...

I generally use the gravel siphon, but I'll keep the coat hanger in mind
