Here are some photos from my trip to catch freshwater pipefish in Dniester. It is a marine species called Black Striped Pipefish or Syngnathus nigrolineatus, that had adopted to completely freshwater life. They live in breed in pure freshwater now.

here a baby fresh water pipefish. There a few even smaller pipes, but they went right through my net and I could not catch them.

Beautiful pattern on those specimens. Does the species require a chiller or is normal home temp OK? Are you planning on captive spawning? If so, looks like a good time to set up those kiddie pools in the yard to raise daphnia and cyclops. Please keep us posted.

he he. i have not set up my tank yet. i just moved here 4 weeks ago. so i let all the fish go for now. i definitely will be keep some, once i get settled. they don't need chillers. it's super hot here right now.

it is really strange that they are invading rivers. it is really a marine species. i wonder if sea horses can tolerate freshwater too

Some sea horse species are found in estuaries so, they'd tolerate at least brackish conditions. The only true FW sea horse I've heard of is from a Bleher account of a trip to Lake Titicaca where he describes the finding of Hippocampus titicacanesis.
