hi all new here. i am wanting to make an about 85ish gallon indoor pond to keep a couple red eared sliders in. the pond will be in a corner in my living room and will be a rectangle with one corner cut off. i was planing on framing it up with 2x4's and then take some 1/4 inch foam and build up the pond then take and line it with chicken wire and fiberglass over it once cured remove the foam and put another layer of fiberglass on it that way it would be a fiberglass chicken wire fiberglass sandwich. this would then be supported on the 2x4 frame and a few supports under it. i had also toyed with the idea of putting an acrylic window on the cut off corner. for filtration i was planning on a rio 600 submersable pump inside a diy canister filter. the drain would be at the bottom of the tank and also have a skimmer at the surface. the return would be a small shear water fall in the very corner of the tank furthest from the edges. there would be a basking area next to the water fall with one of thoes combination heat/uv lamps over it. how does my idea sound? here is a drawing of my idea.

well i have done a little bit of redesigning and i have came up with a 85 to 90 gallon tank that is 24 inches deep and has 6.65 square feet of surface area at the top of the tank not including the almost 2 square feet of basking area. we have also changed our minds and are thinking of getting muck turtles that will get in to the 8-9 inch range. how does that sound for 2 turtles probably a male and a female. we will also be putting in a 7" plecko and maybe some feeder fish on occasion. as far as filltering goes i will be using 2 gallon size lock and lock containers that i have modified the seal on to make them more water tight one will be full of filter foam and floss and the other full of bio media. i will be using a rio 800 pump that will be pulling water from a bottom drain along with a surface skimmer like what is used on a swimming pool. i will also be making it with a 8 inch water fall to promote aireation.

one question when doing the fiberglass work should i use epoxy of polyester resin. i will be using 1/4 inch mat cloth reinforced with chicken wire and foam

How much is this build going to cost?

A 4', 120 gal. tank maybe cheaper.

not sure it is still in my mind. the thing is the space i have allotted for this tank is kinda unique and i like the diy aspect of it. it is more of a project
