The title pretty much sums it up i have a pair of uaru that keep laying eggs they were in a 180g community tank with large fish. When they were in the 180 they would lay the eggs and they would last about 1 day or so, we were turning the lights off at night as usual and the eggs were always a amber color. So i moved them to a 55 that has smaller fish baby angels and peacocks that are about 2" well on the 2nd of this month they layed some more eggs all amber colored and we left the lights on at night. about 1.5-2 days later they became extremely aggressive toward each other and ate the eggs. Now today they layed eggs again, im planning on leaving the lights on at night again.

Has any one here been successful at breeding Uaru?
Are my Uaru just to young maybe, they do stand guard of the eggs and fan them pretty much all day. Im thinking if they eat this batch next time they have eggs i might just pull the eggs and try hatching them in a separate smaller tank with air supply. I know that baby uaru eat off the parents slime coat, if i do manage to hatch the eggs away from the parents do you think the fry would be fine eating brine shrimp?

Any and all input would be wonderful and if anyone has links or articles with information.

Thanks

They ate the eggs :( and the female got pretty beat up so we separated them so that she can get healthy, thinking of giving her a few weeks away. Once i put them back together if they spawn i am going to pull the rock this time.
Our house is crazy with fish as well we have a breeding pair of koi angels that have a batch of fry in with them, I also have about 30-40 German red Juvenals, im growing out some Ngara flamaetails i am really hoping i have a male i would like that to be one of my breeding projects. we also have 2 red severum females that need males they keep laying eggs with one of our gold severums in our community tank.

o and any hints on how to get my uaru to lay eggs

check out this site maybe it could give you info on how to get your uarus to breed aqualandpetsplus.com

The red severums are my husbands I would have to ask if he wants to sell them, I know for awhile he was looking for a male so not sure about his plan for them.
We have never done anything special to get them to spawn, just make sure you are doing large weekly water changes and make sure they have many options to spawn on. Our uaru have pretty much claimed that rock in the picture and every time they spawned the eggs were on that rock even when it was part of a structure. Hmm i know Uaru dig a pit when they spawn so make sure they can move the substrate around as they please.
How long have you had your Uaru?

I've had the for about a month now and i have a sand bottom to my tank with a clay pot and slate in it. I've done large water changes once a week. I think my ph is to high for them right now I think its like 7.8 so I'm going to try to find a way to lower that. Right now i have my 110 over stocked I have 20 severums in it ranging from 2 inches to 5 inches and i have 6 red severums in there 4 greens and 10 golds. Where are you locates in wi .
