The following will be my ultimate DIY background and tank bottom build. I needed a bigger home for my JD, so I picked up a 100 gal tank and stand from CL for $200. Had to completely gut the stand and basically build a new one because it was so rotted out. Then decided to build a nice 3D background for the tank as well.

New tank is for this guy:

Tools I used for shaping the styrofoam and gluing it in the tank:

Here's the weekends worth of work. I cut the styrofoam sheets with the jig saw, and then shaved parts away with the drill/wire brush to make them rounded and have some waviness to them.

Took 6 tubes of silicone to glue all these in there. There's about 45 pieces total so far. Some rock pillars, etc... to come

Monday night's work was to make rock pillars to go inbetween the big overhanging background pieces to make caves and hiding places. This will be all the work done until I find Sika Top Seal 107 to coat the background. Until then, I'll be working on getting my sump ready.
