my umbee at 2.5 inches tip...

God, I would really love some umbies. But I'm afraid to get a gargantuan aquarium, at least on the main floor of the house. I live in an old house, and I'm afraid to push past 150 gallons in one spot. I do have an unfinished basement, largely not used except for storage and laundry. The front room of the basement I've dreamed of turning into a home for big aquariums, and extra aquariums as well. But that room needs some attention before I want to go in there to watch fish. It is so dark and dank, cobwebs and spiderwebs everywhere. Cement floor, bare ceiling, one light bulb hanging down from the ceiling.

But that room has potential. There are plenty of electrical sockets, and not a ton of stuff has been stored in it. I also just took down my oldest 75 and replaced it with another 90. I plan to take that 75 downstairs and fire it up in that front room. I just need to find a cheap 75 stand. Then that fish room will be started, and perhaps motivate me to whip it into a more civilized state. I'll probably just use that 75 as a fry growout tank. Or I could use it to breed feeder guppies. Then if that works out, I'll start looking foraquariumsbig enough to fit big Umbees.

Until then, I was thinking about ordering some Caquetaia spectabilis from TUIC. They get pretty big, but not Umbee big. They sort of look like juvenile Umbees at a glance, but with a deeper body, not as elongated. Don't know for sure if I will order them, as they are on a long list of cichlids he has that I want, and I can only safely add a few different species. Decisions, decisions. I have one week to decide.

Anyway, sorry to ramble on. Your little Umbee looks like he can grow up to be a real tank buster. I'm sure many people here wish they had him. He very well could grow into a show fish, he looks like he has potential. Please post more pictures as he grows up.
