So I checked on my new Hog Island boa this morning. Seems he's got a slight case of the sniffles, as in a soft popping when he breathes and a little droplet (not bubble) of mucus in his nostril. As I've only heard good things about the guy I got him from, I'm not going to blame him for it....heck, I don't even know if he breeds boas or if he just resold it to me.

Anyhow, I'm going to quarantine him at 88-90 F and at normal humidity (50s-60s) until his symptoms disappear, and for at least a month afterwards.

If anyone has experience with RI in BCI, I'd really appreciate any advice. This is my first boa and my first case of RI.

Vet, ASAP. Find the best herp vet you can, they'll probably put it on med and get it all healed up in no time. Also, if it dies within 42 hours and you didnt get a vet check, you most likely wont be able to get a Refund. Most companies have a thing were if you buy the animal, you have to take it to the vet within 42 hours, that may only be for shipped animals, but I'd call and ask from the place you got it if you can still contact them.

Never delt with it in snakes. I know with turtles you need to increase the heat some, which sounds like what you are doing. I agree that you should probably take your snake to a herp vet.

Someone sent you a snake with an active RI? Who'd you buy it from? That is really sad. Who cares if people have said good things about him...he sold you a sick snake!

In any event, you need to take it to a vet and get it some antibiotics ASAP. Injected antibiotics seem to be most effective for treating RIs in larger constrictors. A lot of inexperienced vets that don't keep up with the literature will try to administer an oral antibiotic...bring that to your vet's attention if you can find a good herp vet quickly.

I think the seller should be liable for a significant portion of the vet costs. To buy an animal for $XXX.XX then go spend another chunk of change on vet bills is NOT how things should be done.

Well Said :clap

How long have you had the snake?
I'll concur with everyones advise here and say "take it to an experienced herp vet ASAP".
