staten island new york
its rated for like 1200-1500

i wanna drill the hole bigger on the drip plate im running a mag 24 or a mag 36 on my 300

and how big should i tell glass cages to drill the 2 drain holes

thanks

2 1.5" holes should be fine, but how big are the holes in your drip plate now? mine are 1/8" and provide plenty of flow.

( I have a LOT of surface area on the drip plates)

idk exactly... but if it says 1200-1500.. i take it they are to small for the mag 24 or 36...

i would use two 2 inch drain and 1.5 return if you are using mag 24. i heard that mag 36 has problem becuase it's too powerful but the inlet and outlet is not enough. i actually called danner and they told me to use at bigger pipe..oh i have a mag drive 18 i returned my mag 24 because i computed it and it was too powerful for my 180 gal with two 1" drain and one 1" return... i was right... the mag 18 was just right if i went for mag 24 it would drain my sump before they can drain back.

how big is your tank? it would be better to have more drain than more output.:) i'll post the website that can help you on computing head loss and and drain flow rate.:)

don't drill out the holes.... . you could maybe add a couple. I added about 6 or 8 in mine down each side becuase the water wasn't driping on the balls around the edge, becuase there was no holes above them. I really didn't need extra hole's to help the water flow, But they help when the filer floss pads start getting dirty but when it is clean a few hole's on the ends don't drip water.

I have the same sump(i think pro clear 300) as you and a mag24 .

i got pro clear 400

im tearign down the 180 today ill look

im planning on mag 24
2 1.5" drains and 1" returns.. one on each side

The drip plate alone can handle 3600 gph (Tested it out) But the more filter pads you have covering the drip plate the lower the gph goes, i have a gen x 1200 and a md 12 running right now with 2 filter pads in the drip plate, and then under the drip plate above the bio balls is two sheets of 50,100 micron pads, and under those is filter floss. And the sump keeps up pretty well.

ok thanks... i use just that blue/white one... i think ima use 2...
and im going with the 24 for my big tank
