hey guys. i have 2 4in. warmouth in my sunny tank. they never move around the tank always hiding. they'll dart out to eat then right back to their hiding place. is this normal for warmouth? my dollar, longear, and redbreast will hide when i mess around in the tank but come right out after im done. i love the patterns of my warmouth and would like to see them stay out more. they're new to the tank 2 weeks ago . i thought they would adjust but they haven't.

they're all about the same size except the redbreast which is a few inches bigger. he's definitely the dominate male but he's not overly territorial. only chases when another gets too close. i think its a warmouth thing as both of them picked each a corner with a lot of plants to hide in.

You are correct, Warmouth are more ambush predators and like to stay in covered areas until food comes by, how big is your tank?

what warmouth said.
I got mine to come out more by slow feeding them. but they would still dart off after realizing feeding time was over.
they do come out more now in the big tank with the other sunnies. they are mid-sized in my tank.

they're starting to come out more. they're wary of my redbreast but he's all bark no bite. I've added more local plants to my tank so i think its helped them feel more secure when moving about. boy they're aggressive come feeding time! the little fat heads i put in there don't stand a chance!

i have 5-6 1-2in. fathead-killfish- redbelly dace as feeders in there for the warmouth and redbreast and I've noticed that since they've been in there the warmouths do come out more. maybe over time they'll be more comfortable. im definitely looking for a bigger tank .
