My water is at 79 degrees without a heater

the thermometer reads 79 degrees on my 50 gallon fw tank but i have no kind of heater for it. its been this way for about a week. would it be safe to put an oscar in or would the temperature change on me?

79 is a good temp for an oscar, oscars aren't that picky about temperature as long as its in the 70s or above and is stable, is this an empty tank or is there something else in it already?

there are 4 medium goldfishes cycling the tank. they are doing real good but i noe they can withstand cold temps. is it unusual for my tank to be so warm without a heater or can this happen?

The temp will be about the same as your room. If the room cools off, so will the tank. The water will change slower than the air..

Basically your water is room temp.

if you turn on the air conditioning or have a few cold days then the temp will drop.

I say get a heater so the temp won't drop below 76~78 that way if a cold spell hits, you won't have issues cause by a drop in water temp.. You can find a list of issues if you like.

I'm not a expert since I just purchased my first tank but it was in the mid-60's until I purchased my heater. What do you keep your air temperature at in your house?

we keep it at 72-74. but recently the weather has been really warm in so cal so i guess its been around 80 in my room.

i think imma go for a 200 watt heater. i want the oscar to be hella active so keeping the tank at 80 would be better than the lower 70's. im gonna pick one up for about 15 dollars, does anyone noe where i can get them cheaper

Cheaper isnt always better.....and i would suggest a plastic heater with larger cichlilds saves on the long run with heaters with aggresive fish

Certainly, a heater that can take some whacks .. I have never lost a good glass heater to an agressive fish, but I have lost plenty of glass thermoms. and a cheap glass heater that came with a second hand tank.

I only have 2 glass thermoms left.

i'm your neighbor and my tank's temps goes up at 80 F. now since it's a little bit cooler it goes down to 78-79 F. i even open my windows and my inside temp is 75. i think it's because it's acrylic thats why the temp is not fluctuating too much.
