I came up with a great idea on how to quickly change water on my tank without getting a hose out and making a mess. What I did was t off the inlet to my canister filter and putting a ball valve on it to stop the water flow. I unplug the canister when i do the water changes since it drains a little more then leaving the filter on and opening the valve. What do you guys think?

That's only a 5 gallon bucket. Now you're gonna have to take multiple trips /: why not make that hose long enough to go to a sink and you can just keep it tucked under your stand.

good idea but not pratical if you have a MonsterFish TANK..

How is it not practical? It helps doing water changes. I still vacuum the gravel just not everytime I do water changes.

As far as the bucket goes the tank is located in my basement and there isnt a sink to run the hose to. I change about 2 buckets every 3 days and I dump the water out a Window that wasw installed down here that serves as a fire escape. Theres also no sink down here to fill the buckets so I installed a saddle valve in a water line behind the tank. Unfortunitly its a cold water line so I dont do big water changes on it. The tank itself is a 75.

Id just run a hose somewhere else, perhaps bath tub or something. But that's what I'd have to do to meet my needs, yours could be different

Good idea. Simple to install, low cost, easy to operate (and it works!). I would keep a threaded plug handy to install into the oulet of the ball valve when its not in use...its cheap insurance.

Ya im sure one day the ball valve might get a little worn and leak but for now its doing good. The bucket under the stand is always there too to collect any water that might try to escape.
