Heres a diagram of the wet/dry i'll be starting to build this weekend for my 150gal. Gonna go with either a 20 or a 25 gallon tank as the sump. If I go with a 25gal sump i'll go with 12 gallons of bio media.

Im going with this overflow design http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15733
What size pvc should I go with 1.5 inch or 2 inch?
I was wondering what size pump should i go with? Rio Hyperflow 20?

Interesting. 1.5" should be more than enuff. Just curious..are you planning to put in the heater in the sump? What type? Looking at your diagram the heater will be partial out of the water and if its glass you can run into some problems when your sump level drops. Of course if you are planning to have the sump filled up 3/4 or more of water then the heater will be completely submerged. But then that would also mean your bio media will be almost completely submerged too...that'll defeat the purpose of "wet/dry".

Go with either a bigger tank for your sump, this way you can place the heater horizontally on the bottom, also if you can place the pump outside...or if you plan on using the tank you have suggested...make the bio media area a little smaller.

If you're using a 20 g high..its about 24" L, if you use a 20 gallon long its 30" long.

Good luck.
:D

Good diagram of a w/d that is the same concept my w/d is and I would also try to lay the heater along the bottom keep at least 2/3 of your media out of the water...

Im gonna use Theo Hydro heaters. I figured I could use a 300 watt (15" long) which would be the one under the bio media. I was also gonna use a 150 watt (10" long) I should be able to lay it down on the bottom of the return side and still have room for the pump. If I have to I could suction the pump to the side? Thats something I'm gonna have to figure out when im building it.

I'm gonna go with a 25gal for the sump. The dimensions seem to work out the best.
24 1/4 x 12 1/2 x 20 3/4

Anyone have any comments/experience with Rio Pumps? I was thinkin about going with the RIO 3100.

Well my wet/dry build was canceled. I ended up buying one used from my LFS. I saw one in the shop yesterday and I couldnt pass this deal up. (I think it was a deal). Everything in the pic including pump and plumbing for $200
Pump is a mag 700gph and the overflow is rated around 1700gph. In the next couple months I will invest in a higher gph pump but for now it should be fine. Along with the w/d I have 2 ac110. I couldnt believe how much clear my tank got in a few hours.
