A couple of weeks back, I was in Petco shopping for food for my cats when I decided to go to the Aquarium section...

Little did i realized that it was going to be a VERY special day... I was walking around looking at all the nice looking tropical fish when i saw a small little gray fish swimming by himself in a 5 gallon tank.... It was a Baby JACK DEMPSEY!!!

The little fellow was so cute, but very small.. no bigger than 1.5" I decided to bring him home to share with my current 6" Silver Arowana..

I know.. your all probably thinking... isn't the Aro gonna chump up the little fellow??? I was a little hesitant in bring him home.. but he was SOO LONELY IN PETCO!!!

At the same time.... a few feet down, there were also a PAIR of 7" Tiger Oscar up for adoption!!! Honestly! They were drop off by a guy who no longer could house the two fish... So I also picked those two up... like i said.. VERY SPECIAL DAY!!!!

The minute i got home i put the Two tiger oscar in a cooler that i wasn't using.. (Don't worry, i had a 55 gallon waiting for them.. i just had to get the tank ready) And i also put the little dempsey in a small 1 gallon tank to see if i should grow him out a bit before putting him in another 55 gallon tank..

PS: I was wondering if my jack dempsey here is a MALE?? he's showing spots of glitter color by his sides..

there doesn't seem too much of the spangling color in the jaw area, so it might be a male, but it still is a small fish

jacks are tricky, you gotta wait ill he gets bigger..... good luck man, beautiful fish... congrats

Thx! i want to breed a EBJD. but i kow its gonna be a long time..

Bump!

I saw another pair of jack dempsey today in PetSmart..

but these are almost black in color.. anyone have seen dempsey like that before?

lol yea i own 1 its not really a diff color, the dempseys are darker in color due to happy invironment good diet and maybe even lighting, trust me when they get scared they become brown again lol

im saying male, but cant be 100% at this size.
