Hello out there. So i've had Holger for 61 days now, and he is doing fine! He is a pygocentrus nattereri, and i keep him alone. He is in a 40 gallon tank . I bought the tank used, which was kind of a boomer, because there is a lot of scratches, which i hate. So i am now looking for a bigger tank, where he can go. I have a filter pump which run with 1800 litre per hour.

I have a question:
If we base growth rate solely on food, which will be the best, pellets or raw food?

Thank.

And hell... Why do i always have problem taking pictures of my fish, lol...

I think it all comes down to personal preference.
I've always weaned my P's onto a low-fat pellet for their staple diet, supplemented with raw-shrimp/tilapia/earthworms.
Obviously growth rate will depend on a number of different factors (i.e. diet/water change/tank space, ect.), but I think as long as he's getting fed some sort of low-fat/high nutrient diet combined with frequent water changes, you won't go wrong and will see the growth rate you are looking for.

I'm feeding with Cichlid sticks, which should be very nutritious.
I also do water chances once or twice a week. And i have a filter rated for 60 gallon tank + a good circulation pump.

At some point i will add another pump, just for cycling and making it ready for another aquarium, where my piranha will eventually go.

Feed with both ....nothing better then a variety for diet .....you cant base growth rate on simply pellets or frozen there are a lot of other factors that come into effect

My reds get a little bit of everything.

I feed them on alternating days with a variety of raw fish and DIY gel food. The gel food has pellets, various fish, vitachem and some sort of veggie/plant matter eg. spinach, peas, zucchini, squash etc...

Food wise...I think you'll get the best results if you feed him a varied diet.

Thanks for the replies! (=
And very good pictures!.

I guess varied diet is the key to a healthy fish.
Holger has grown a lot! And i suspect it is due to my water changes and my filter which is rated a lot higher than my current aquarium + my circulation pump.
