I got this guy in August and thought I'd show his peeling and growth process over the last month and a half. When I got him he was about 2.25" and is now about 3" and has been going through some interesting pattern and color changes. Since there have been several posts lately about this I'd thought I'd put this together so some of the members that are new to Amphilophus can see what types of changes they go through. It's always interesting to see what they will end up like. As Time goes on I'll continue to post updates.

Very nice!!! but why do they term it peeling? They literally don't peel so why that term?

Great looking fish!!! I'd love to see updates down the road as he grows.

Hulon, I think it's called peeling because the color change seems to start at one point and slowly spread across the whole body, giving the illusion that the skin is peeling away. Of course, I could be making that up, that's just my guess.

I believe Natalie is correct in how the term came to be. There are some great examples out there that make it really look like they're peeling. Great fish BTW! I cannot get enough of these types of progressions.

Keep us posted, I am going to subscribe to this thread, so much change so far.

Thanks, I like progression threds too! These guys really go through some interestiong morphs on their way to adulthood.

Right now it is housed in a with a 5" JD and a 3" female Con. Once it gets a little bigger/meaner I'll move it to it's own tank I have a 90 in the garage I'll use. I'm running out of room for solo wet pets, I have to cut back a little or start liking friendly fish.......nah!

Nice RD..Im gonna keep watching this thread. I've got about 60-70 at 1". I cant wait to see what these guys look like when I grow them out-something to look forward to..

I know the feeling. My wife finally wants to switch out her 75 African Cichlid tank to an Amer. Cichlid tank. Bad thing is that she already picked out the new replacements. This was supposed to be my extra tank! My RD is in a tank in the garage by himself. I'll bring him in the house to a larger tank this week. I'm running out of tank space. The RD gets his own and I have another tank waiting for some future arrivals (hint, hint). I tried the peaceful fish tank thing and it bored me to tears. Don't do it, my friend!
