Check this out.. so my female zonatum laid eggs about 3 weeks ago, but there isn't a male in the tank so they obviously didn't get fertilized. Well, yesterday, I think that both my zonatum and escondido both laid eggs on the same rock next to each other. Both are in breeding colors and both are protecting the eggs... and I am guessing that there is at least 600 or so eggs.

Here are some pics... the overhead shots are pretty blurry, that's the only way I could have gotten pics of the eggs though.

what would be really cool is if a male came along and fertilized all the eggs.

I was thinking the same thing, that would be an awesome (and interesting) treesome. :headbang2

Hmm... I have a male barred midas in another tank :naughty:

Are you sure that both are females? Did you see them both laying eggs? That's very strange if so. Usually an egg laying fem will protect the site from all comers, even when there is no mate.

Yeah I'm positive. The zonatum laid eggs about 3 or so weeks ago. The escondido hasn't before, but it is definitely a female. She has a very definitive spot on her dorsal fin that males don't get.
