Not an urgent thread by any means, but thought I'd share an interesting thing I've had happen over the course of the last 3 or 4 months (at least).
As some may know, I have a tank with Odessa and Tiger barbs, which started off at around 15-20 odessa's and 15 tiger barbs. This is all in a 90, so I feel confident that it isn't/wasn't an overstocking issue, water params are fine.
I've noticed that I've been losing my tiger barbs, down from 15 to about 6 now. Obviously this sucks, since I love tigers, and have successfully kept shoals of 12+ for years, with chunky healthy adults.
Some of the barbs look fine, but one or two have the bottom part of their caudal fin chewed off, or at least looks like it. I can't see any signs of bacterial infection, no fuzz or fungus. Came home yesterday to a half eaten tiger barb, too far gone to even try and take a closer look.
I kind of suspect its the odessa's, but I haven't seen any direct attacks from them. I haven't counted the odessa's (since its freaking hard when they go nuts), but their numbers look to be at least double the tigers. The danios in the tank also look healthy from what I can see. Basically I'm thinking either bacterial, secret fin nipping; or parasite (hope not!)
