Sorry I didn't know where to post this but because birchirs are ancient fish I thought I'd do it here, I found this birchir at a lfs and they called it a dinosaur birchir and I had never heard of it so I bought it for $6 and I thought it was a deal so I was wondering what is it. Its not a very good pic because its a camera phone but please try to help!!

you're "bichir" looks to be very small, and if you paid six dollars for it at the local fish store, labeled as a dinosaur eel, it's probably Polypterus senegalus! If you go back to the ancient fish forum and click on the sub-section POLYPTERUS, you will find everything you will ever need to know!:D

Alright good thats what I was thinking and is that a good deal one of those for $6? sorry I didn't know the scientific name of the family of fish like that I just thought they were birchirs my bad.

Senegals are a steal at $6. Sure, you can buy them at pet smart for that price, but I mean it is great to be able to buy a bichir at that price. It beats paying $50-90 for any of the other bichirs. I love senegals, and it makes me smile that I can buy them all day long at $6.
