The glorious US of A
I got a 55 gal and filled it up and let it cycle. i got my water tested at 2 different stores and both said it was perfect. so i got a convict and put it in there and it died two days later. I thought maybe it was just a bad fish so i got another and the same thing happened. So i got my water tested again and it passed. Then i got an oscar and two days later it died. There was no signs of illness in the tank.

Does anybody know what is going on?

What is your water temperature?

Did you add anything to the water before, during or after the cycle?

You should get a Master Test Kit and check the water yourself.

Are there any "non-typical" decorations in your tank? (rocks, wood, steel, iron, etc)

How long has the bamboo been in the tank? Bamboo is not a full aquatic plant, meaning it can't be entirely submerged or it will begin to die. Once that happens, you will have other problems. All the plants that are sold in plastic tubes at Petsmart/Petco are actually pretty common houseplants and are not aquatic. I have noticed they also float bamboo in their tanks sometimes and this plant is also not a full aquatic plant.

They will do OK if you have them partially exposed, but that can be difficult with a covered, filled fish tank. Common aquatic plants that do well are hornwort, wisteria, java fern...among others.

I would take the bamboo out and put it in a betta bowl or similar. I would have your water checked again, but not with test strips.

By the way, I (and many others on here) only use "Prime" to condition water. Not many use clarifiers or chain store brand de-chlorinators.

Good luck :)
