I found these today at one of the local pet stores. I'm hoping they are something special (Lyonsi or Festea). The pictures are the best I could get with my camera phone. It gives you a general idea of what I'm looking at but, what you can't see from that their fins have a reddish color to them. Also, something I thought might be worth mentioning is the spot on their tail and that, sometimes it looks like their dorsal fins are trimmed in a bright red. The two girls there said that they ordered in some red devils today but they also suggested that they may be an arautus. So, I'm hoping that they were wrong about the devil thing and that I found a diamond in the rough. Please, tell me what you think. Also, they are about an inch and a half long.

Well, here they are.

I'm not exactly sure what it is but that 2nd pic you can kinda make out some very light vertical bars, plus with the dark lateral line I would definitely say that it's not a red devil. Maybe Barred Midas or Festae? Hard to say with those little guys sometimes. Nice looking fish though

Can barred midas have the spot on the tail?

I believe so... Google "juvenile amphilophus species" and go to the images. Your fish looks pretty similar to a few of them. Being that u can see the true colors of your fish that the camera won't pick up, maybe you'll spot one that looks most similar to what u got. I'm curious what it is now too, let me know if you find anything out

Here are juvenile A. lyonsi (1.5-2") I bought a while back from TUIC. I'd be surprised if a mystery fish from a lfs turned out to be a lyonsi given that they are not very common in the hobby.

Anyways, here are some pics of it as a juvi and a young adult. I don't have it anymore as it grew way to fast. But the store I adopted it to sill has it. Guess it is to mean for anyone to buy, ha ha

I suppose that's what I get for buying on impulse. They also had some vieja type fish there but had no clue what they were. I didn't pick one up though. I thought they were probably black belts which I already have growing out.
