my 55 has been good for a year now, all has been well,,,

in the last few days my pleco died and the other fish seem like there peeling or somthing, its like a white goo/skin coming off them, and there very lethargic,

i do weekly 50% wc and i have 2 marineland biowheels 350's and a emperor hanging off the side,

all my levels are mint,

anyone know what kinda disease this might be so i can research it and narrow it down,

What temp is the tank? ph reading? .... also some pics would really help

temp is 80, ph is 7.0 amonia is 0 nite's are 0

its a good tank and has always been...

i dont understand, i have never had somthing liek this happen,, its like the pluage hit my tank,

all roads lead me to somthing called permagreen? or somthing,,, anyone use this before?

This white peeling stuff actually happens to my scaleless fish alot. I contribute it mostly to stress and water quality second.

Do you have a microscope, there are several possible causes, most can be differentiated on a slide. Both heavy infections of costia, other protozoans and various sporozoans show symptoms like this. A good med to try is called Binox (Availabe through Jungle Laboratories).

no microscope, blood parrot died today, pleco died, JD is still looking good, fungus is off him,

Quite honestly, if the skin appears to be sloughing off (or whitish crud is hanging out of the gills) there are precious few options. Most anti-parasitic meds will cause more harm than good, and most available anti-bacterial meds are imprecise. Without a microscopic ID these actions are pointless anyway. More than likely, it is combination of external protozoans, gill damage, bacterial infection, and serious osmotic stress. The gist: warm the water to 85 degrees F, add serious oxygenation (airstones, powerheads with Venturi full-blast, lower the water level to increase turbulence), and salt at 1 tablespoon/5 gallons of water.

If you must use an antibiotic, I would recommend Kanaplex (kanamycin sulfate). Nitrofurazone (the main active ingredient in Binox) has been indicated by some to harm the biological filter.

temp at 85, salt added, all i have on hand for meds are mardel maroxy, api fungus powder, tank buddies parasite remover,

i added a small dose of the maroxy with my fingers crossed, if JD dies i might drop the hobby,
