Mystery Fish (ID Please)

Ok, I had this fish years ago, but I was never sure of what it was. I posted it on another site then, but no one else could ID it either. It's not the most clear pic, but I'd have to search pretty hard to find a better one. What do you think? It looks like an acara of some sort. It was the only fish that I ever had that I never knew the ID of. Still buggin me years later lol.

Looks like an acara(port cichlid) to me.

That was my first thought too...Port Acara.

Definitely a type of Port Acara, but would probably need a clearer picture of side markings to ID specific species 100%

I have never had one but a buddy of mine had one years ago that he was quite fond of.

Awesome thanks, I used to believe it was a port acara as well (that's all i could come up with)but his colors usually looked more drab compared to most of the others that I had seen online before.

Yeah the one I had was surprisingly rowdy. He was very territorial.

Could be a portalagrensis or dimerus. Any more pictures for a more positive id?

Here is a pic of Cichlasoma dimerus to compare with whats in your memory.
The one below is the Uruguayan "Bella Union" location variant, but they have a wide distribution from all over S American, and can display differing color variations depending on where they are from. Some more yellow, some more brown, some more or less blue.

It does look very similar. I've seen some dimerus pics over the years that looked off too. I'll see if I can find any other pics of it later off my laptop.
