Something weird is going on in my main tank that has now, assuming it's the same thing, killed a 4'' pleco, a farlowella, a baby datnoid (maybe), and now seems to be messing with my electric catfish.
I haven't noticed them all stop eating although the electric cat may have, but they all seem to swim up to the top of the tank and spend a lot of time hanging out by the grill where the water flows down to the sump. Presumably they're there cause they can use the current to have to swim less, but it's especially weird with my fat electric cat just up there as he is now.
The weird thing about this is that I haven't noticed any external symptoms until the fish are dead. Aside from unusual hanging out by the filter grate thing, which they've all done before death. The cat might have a few pale almost liverspot looking things on him, but I think one of those has been there a while and I always sort of assumed it was his natural splotchy color.
I've got low nitrates (planted tank) and a ph of 6.9-7 (I lowered it from about 7.2 two weeks ago or so using eheim torf pellet bags in the sump) and about a week ago I checked the nitrites and they were also normal. Low to no amonia. The dat died like 3 weeks ago, the pleco 2, the farlowella this morning.
Any ideas what could be causing this? ...overfeeding?
I don't know if it could be related but about 2.5 months ago I had a flowerhorn imported who got really sick in this tank, got put into a quarantine tank, and died. He was covered in ich and I treated the tank for it, and also seemed to have a fungus. He also hung out around the grates in the days leading to his death.
